Where do I get a key?
Go to console.cloud.google.com/google/maps-apis and create a project (Google gives a recurring free monthly credit that comfortably covers casual use, but a billing account still needs to be attached).
Enable "Places API (New)" for that project.
Create an API key under Credentials, and paste it above — it's saved only in this browser, never sent anywhere except directly to Google.
How Vennu picks a fair spot
Turns everyone's address into coordinates.
Estimates a starting midpoint weighted by travel speed and by what's a comfortable trip length for that mode — a 30-minute walk and a 75-minute drive are both treated as "a normal trip" for that person, so someone walking pulls the point toward them far more than someone driving would.
Looks up real venues of your chosen type near that midpoint.
Calculates real travel time for each person to each nearby venue, by their own transport mode.
Ranks venues by fairness in terms of that trip budget, not raw minutes — the goal is everyone using a similar share of a normal trip, not everyone spending the same number of minutes (which would happily send a walker on a 2-hour countryside walk to match a driver's 2-hour motorway drive).
